An Islandia woman was critically injured Monday in a one-car crash on the Long Island Expressway, Suffolk police said.
Winterjane Preston, 30, apparently lost control of her 2011 Hyundai about 12:45 p.m. as she drove west on the Long Island Expressway in Farmingville, police said. Preston struck a guardrail and went off the roadway and onto the north shoulder at Exit 62.
The crash briefly shut down the highway's westbound lanes, Det. Sgt. Patrick Maher of the Sixth Precinct said.
Preston, the sole occupant of the car, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by the Ronkonkoma Fire Department and was treated for a head injury, police said.
