A Wyandanch woman's arm that was severed in an industrial accident in Farmingdale Friday afternoon has been reattached by doctors at Stony Brook University Medical Center, police said.

Beatriz Blas, 37, of Brooklyn Avenue, was working at Brand Packaging Group Inc., 85 Price Pkwy., about 2:40 p.m. when the accident occurred, Suffolk police said.

A co-worker heard her scream and found her with her left arm trapped in a packaging machine, police said. The worker was able to free her and retrieve the severed arm, police said.

Blas was first flown by helicopter to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow and then to Stony Brook University Medical Center, where doctors surgically reattached the arm, police said. Blas was reported in stable condition Saturday morning at the hospital, police said.

Blas is expected to remain in the hospital through the weekend.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Suffolk police were investigating the accident, police said.
