Woman's arm severed in industrial accident
A Wyandanch woman's arm was severed in an industrial accident in Farmingdale Friday afternoon, Suffolk police said.
Beatriz Blas, 37, of Brooklyn Avenue, was working at Brand Packaging Group Inc., 85 Price Pkwy., about 2:40 p.m. when the accident occurred, police said.
A co-worker heard her scream and found her with her left arm trapped in a packaging machine, police said. The worker was able to free her and retrieve the severed arm, police said.
Blas was first flown by helicopter to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow and then to Stony Brook University Medical Center where doctors would attempt to reattach the arm., police said. Blas was reported in stable condition Friday night at the hospital, police said.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Suffolk police were investigating the accident, police said.
