Connecticut police have found the second of two boaters who arrived on a raft in Clinton from Long Island.

Clinton police and the Coast Guard said the two people left Greenport, New York, on a raft at about 5 p.m. Wednesday. They called a friend at 7 p.m., reporting a problem.

The Coast Guard searched Long Island Sound overnight.

The boaters arrived in Clinton early Thursday morning. The Coast Guard said they do not know the area and knocked on doors, seeking help.

Police say one man fled as a resident answered her door early Thursday morning. WVIT-TV reports that officials say 33-year-old William Brandon McCreery was found Thursday sleeping in a garbage can.

His companion was taken to a local hospital for hypothermia.
