Abbate helps Division oust No. 1 Plainedge

Sean Abbate threw a five-hitter and struck out seven to lead No. 7 Division to a 9-1 l win over top-seeded Plainedge Tuesday in Game 2 to sweep the Nassau Class A baseball semifinals.

Mike Roestenberg's two-run single highlighted a seven-run sixth for Division (18-6), which will play the Garden City-Island Trees winner in a best-of-three finals starting Monday. Plainedge is 22-2.

Garden City 6, Island Trees 2: James Cauchi's three-run homer gave fourth-seeded Garden City (19-5-1) a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth in Game 2 of the Nassau Class A semifinals to even the series at 1. Game 3 is 4:30 p.m. Thursday at No. 3 Island Trees (20-5).

Carey 6, Calhoun 2: John Daddino went the distance and struck out 13 and Harry Smith was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs for No. 4 Carey (16-6) in a win over No. 1 Calhoun (20-2) in Game 1 of the Nassau Class AA semifinals. Calhoun will play at Carey at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Game 2 of the best of three.

MacArthur 11, Oceanside 4: Jesse Tuozzo went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and threw a five-hitter, allowing two earned runs, two walks and striking out 13 for No. 2 MacArthur (18-5) in Game 1 of the Nassau Class AA semifinals. Game 2 is 4:45 p.m. Wednesday at No. 3 Oceanside (16-6).

St. Dominic 6, St. John the Baptist 4: Spencer Bilello escaped a bases-loaded jam in the fourth and pitched the rest of the game, allowing no runs and two hits to get the victory for No. 1 St. Dominic (16-5) to tie the best-of-three CHSAA semifinals at 1. Nick Girardi hit a two-run double in a three-run second inning to give the Bayhawks a 5-1 lead. Game 3 will be Thursday at Farmingdale State.

Deer Park 1, Lindenhurst 0: Rob Bylicki hit a sacrifice fly to score Joe Paparella in the top of the fifth for No. 16 Deer Park (13-8). Joe Muenkel threw a three-hitter, walked two and struck out four. Deer Park will play at No. 9 Half Hollow Hills West at 4 p.m. Wednesday. No. 1 Lindenhurst (18-3) will host No. 8 Commack in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Northport 12, Smithtown West 5: Steve Carr went 2-for-2 with a triple, home run and three RBIs and Andrew Letora went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs for No. 15 Northport (11-9), which will play at Sachem North at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the second round. Second-seeded Smithtown West will host No. 10 West Islip in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Sachem North 3, West Islip 2: Nick Teta's two-out single in the bottom of the seventh won it for No. 7 Sachem North (17-4). Mike Vitale gave up just three hits and struck out five for the win.Connetquot 10, West Babylon 7: Joe Petre's two-out, bases-loaded walk gave No. 13 Connetquot (11-10) an 8-7 lead in the top of the seventh and Mike Rizzitello followed with a two-run single to cap the scoring. Sam Huntington went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Connetquot, which will play at No. 5 Eastport-South Manor at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the second round. No. 4 West Babylon will host No. 12 Floyd in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Half Hollow Hills West 3, Commack 0: Remy Janco threw a five-hitter and struck out seven and David Golinowski had a two-run single for No. 9 HHHW (15-6).

Patchogue-Medford 6, Bellport 2: Matt Vogel threw a two-hitter and struck out 12 for No. 3 Patchogue-Medford (15-6). Tyler Moston was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple, and three runs for Patchogue-Medford, which will host No. 11 North Babylon at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Hauppauge will host Bellport in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Eastport-South Manor 8, William Floyd 4: Ryan Gili was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for No. 5 ESM (18-3).

North Babylon 3, Hauppauge 0: Luke Noone threw a two-hitter with seven strikeouts for No. 11 North Babylon (13-7).
