More than 200 parents attended a panel discussion at Levittown Hall in Hicksville regarding the rollout of the Common Core curriculum and the growing movement of having children opt out of the standardized exams.

Educators also spoke about Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s reform agenda and teacher evaluations.

Panel participants told News 12 that parents should be getting involved with more school issues.

"[Parents] need to get more involved, attend board meetings, attend forums like this to get a better idea about what's happening," said Heather Umhafer, a parent advocate.
