Suffolk police detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a Babylon woman Thursday night in Melville, according to a police report.
The crash, involving a 1999 Nissan Maxima and a tractor trailer, occurred near the intersection of Pinelawn Road and Marcus Drive at about 10:25 p.m., police said. Koren Tanner, the 31-year-old driver of the Maxima, sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center and admitted in critical condition. The driver of the tractor trailer, Everth Escobar, 31, of Falls Church, Va., declined medical attention, Melville Fire Chief Robert Warren said.
The accident closed the road in both directions Thursday night. The Maxima was impounded for a safety check and the tractor trailer was examined at the scene by the Suffolk County Police Motor Safety Carrier Unit, police said.
Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
