Barrett's 23 sparks Pierson's victory
Sarah Barrett had a game-high 23 points, including seven straight late in the fourth quarter as Pierson/Bridgehampton topped Mercy, 43-41, in a Suffolk League VIII girl's basketball game on Friday.
Barrett's two free throws with 15. 1 seconds left provided the final margin for Pierson (2-0). Pierson's Sami James had 14 points and blocked a short jumper with 3.8 seconds to preserve the victory. Mercy is 1-1.
Mineola 37, Seaford 36: Kerri Medlock converted a three-point play for the winning points with 16 seconds left in overtime for (1-0) in Nassau Conference A-IV. Medlock had 14 points, 13 rebounds and six steals. Seaford's Stephanie Meyer hit a three-pointer with 56 seconds left in the fourth to force overtime.
Longwood 44, Brentwood 33: Aliyah Blake scored 11 of her game-high 17 points during a 17-13 fourth quarter and added eight rebounds to lead Longwood (3-4, 1-2) in League I. Kiersten West added 10 points and eight rebounds and Jessica Kalbfleisch had 13 rebounds and three blocks.
Central Islip 55, West Islip 46: Brittany Fenner had a career-high 16 points and 11 rebounds and Janiece Jenkins had 16 points and 16 rebounds to lead Central Islip (2-1) in League II. Chelsea Weir had 20 points for West Islip (0-3).
North Babylon 54, Centereach 36: Tamara Simpson had 14 points and 10 rebounds for North Babylon (3-0) in League III. Brianna Jones added 12 points and four steals.
Massapequa 63, Hempstead 23: Taylor Byrne had 11 points and Taylor Elliot chipped in 10 points as 10 different players scored for Massapequa (4-1) in Conference AA1.
Bellmore JFK 58, Long Beach 24: Allie Keller had 20 points, six rebounds and two assists and Morgan Kitton had 12 points and 14 rebounds to lead Bellmore JFK (1-3) in Conference AA-III.
Elmont 56, Great Neck South 32: Senior Alex Clark scored a career-high 23 points to go with five steals and Bria Fisher had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Elmont (3-1) in Conference AA-III.
New Hyde Park 60, Roslyn 49: Ciara McCullagh had 26 points and 14 rebounds and senior Lexie Peveraro scored a career-high 11 points to lift New Hyde Park (3-1) in Conference A-I. Nina Hadzibabic scored 23 points for Roslyn (1-2).
Division 69, Westbury 28: Julie Ballantyne had 16 points and Brianne Connolly had 12 points and six assists for Division (2-1) in Conference A-I. Christina Rea and Kristen Stewart each added eight points in the win.
South Side 46, Lynbrook 38: Megan Lonergan had 11 points and five blocks and Christina Merrifield had 10 points and eight rebounds to lead South Side (4-0) in Conference A-II. Brooke Gerstman scored 19 points for Lynbrook.
Bethpage 58, Hewlett 53: Julie Ann Tierney scored 14 points and added 11 rebounds for Bethpage (1-2) in Conference A-III. Sam DiSalvo scored 20 points for Hewlett.
Island Trees 66, Clarke 22: Brianna Wilson had 12 points and 10 rebounds to lead Island Trees (1-0) in Conference A-IV. Maggie Milonakis added 11 points, six rebounds and five assists and freshman Cassie Paskins had career-highs with nine points and 11 rebounds in the win.
Carle Place 60, Malverne 24: Samantha Burden had 15 points and five steals to lead Carle Place (3-1) in Conference BC. Jennifer Balestrieri added nine points, Jill Flecker had seven points and nine rebounds and Sarah Pisani had five points and five assists. Amanda Masson scored 10 points for Malverne.
