Carbone leads St. Anthony's softball
Michelle Carbone threw her first varsity no-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks for St. Anthony's in a 4-0 win Thursday over Our Lady of Mercy in CHSAA softball. Carbone's only base runner was a hit batter in the fourth, who was doubled off first base in the ensuing at-bat. Aileen Reilly had a two-run double to give the Friars (6-1) a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second.
South Side 18, Westbury 0: Freshman Samantha Maselli struck out nine in a five-inning perfect game for South Side (5-0) in Nassau Conference IV.
Farmingdale 1, Long Beach 0: Emily Dorso's single scored Angela Fierst in the bottom of the eighth to win it for Farmingdale (4-3) in Conference I. Isabella Corrao struck out 15 and walked one in a one-hitter.
Valley Stream North 5, Roslyn 4: Dana Morgante's double scored Viana Bencivenga in the bottom of the seventh for VSN (6-1) in Conference III.
Connetquot 1, Longwood 0: Erin Massman scored on a groundout by Nicole Wieczorek in the bottom of the fifth and Chelsea LaMarca threw a three-hitter with no walks and four strikeouts for Connetquot (6-1) in a League I/II crossover.
Shoreham-Wading River 1, Islip 0: Chelsea Hawks struck out 10 and allowed five hits to lead SWR (5-1) in a League V/VI crossover. Michelle Gostic scored on an error in the bottom of the first.
Babylon 18, Center Moriches 8: Sophomore Nicole Marro hit for the cycle, going 4-for-5 with five RBIs and two runs, for Babylon (7-1) in League VII.
BASEBALL
Wheatley 21, Carle Place 18: Billy McLean's three-run homer in the top of the seventh gave Wheatley (3-2) a 21-18 lead in Conference BC. McLean pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for the win and Nick Jonas went had four hits and six RBIs.
Smithtown East 5, Half Hollow Hills East 1: Tim Kopiske gave Smithtown East (1-3, League III) a 4-0 lead with a grand slam in the top of the third. Dan Walsh struck out five in six innings for the win.
Centereach 6, West Islip 5: Peter Vath scored Keith Gurciullo with a sac fly in the bottom of the 10th to win it for Centereach (1-1) in League III.
Kings Park 10, Deer Park 9: Shane O'Leary's walk-off single with two outs and two strikes in the bottom of the eighth scored Joey Lynn with the winning run for Kings Park (4-1) in League V. Nick Venier's three-run homer gave the Kingsmen a 9-6 lead in bottom of the sixth. Joe Paperella's two-run double in the top of the seventh tied it at 9 for Deer Park (3-2).
Mercy 5, Greenport 4: Pat Steponski's single to left-centerfield scored Joe Crosser in the bottom of the seventh to win it for Mercy (4-1) in League VIII.
St. Dominic 4, Chaminade 0: Yohah Perline struck out seven in a four-hitter and Kevin Podell hit an RBI single in the top of the third inning to give St. Dominic (2-0) a 1-0 lead in CHSAA.
St. John the Baptist 6, Holy Trinity 0: Andrew Sesto struck out six and allowed three hits to lead St. John the Baptist (5-1) in CHSAA. Ryan Collins, Dylan Steigerwald and Kevin McLaughlin each had two hits and two RBIs.
