Cardinals' Matt Adams homers for the third straight game with father in attendance
The Cardinals' Matt Adams might want to have his father's visit last longer.
Adams homered for the third straight game -- all with his father in attendance -- and Matt Holliday also went deep as host St. Louis swept the Nationals with a 5-2 win yesterday.
Adams gave St. Louis a 2-0 lead in the second inning with a two-run shot, his sixth homer of the season. Adams' father, Jamie, has been visiting from Pennsylvania on Father's Day weekend. "Unfortunately, he's going to go home," he said.
They were going to meet before Adams' father left for the airport. "He might give me a big hug and start crying," Adams said. "He's an emotional guy."
Marlins 3, Pirates 2: Casey McGehee tied it in the eighth with a two-out, two-run double, then drove home the winning run with a sacrifice fly in the 10th for host Miami. "It's one of those feelings you can't really describe," he said of delivering a win and being greeted by your teammates. "It's a special feeling because you've been grinding for however many innings. It's a sudden relief -- there's nothing like it that I can imagine."
Braves 7, Angels 3: Tommy La Stella had a two-run double in host Atlanta's four-run sixth. The rookie second baseman, is hitting .411 with at least two hits in nine of his 16 games.
Cubs 3, Phillies 0: Travis Wood pitched hitless ball into the sixth as Chicago won its first road series this season.
Reds 13, Brewers 4: Billy Hamilton led off the game with a home run, and Brandon Phillips added a two-run shot in the first for visiting Cincinnati.

Rays 4, Astros 3: David Price shook off a tough start to strike out 10, and pinch hitter Jerry Sands broke three bats -- yes, three! -- but singled home the go-ahead run in the eighth in Houston. It was the 20th career double-digit strikeout game for Price, setting a Tampa Bay record.
Sands, asked if all of the bats he used were his or if he had to borrow one, said: "Yes [but] we had to dig deep. It was pretty crazy. I don't think I've ever broken two in an at-bat, but three on three consecutive swings was pretty crazy."
Royals 6, White Sox 3: Salvador Perez hit a three-run homer and visiting Kansas City extended its season-high win streak to seven games.
Tigers 4, Twins 3: J.D. Martinez's ninth-inning sacrifice fly won it for host Detroit.
