A Northport man was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in prison for running down a Suffolk police officer and almost killing him.

Chad Morizsan was in a stolen SUV when Officer Nicholas Guerrero tried to stop him in Huntington last September.

Morizsan struck Guerrero, leaving him with a serious head injury. Guerrero was placed in a medically induced coma.

Prosecutors say that the SUV was stolen amid a larger crime spree in which Morizsan stole several cars, including one from a woman shortly before her wedding. He reportedly also used stolen credit cards to buy a TV at a Target store in Central Islip and was finally caught when he tried to return that TV to get a bigger one.

Guerrero, now a detective, is continuing his recovery with the hope of fully returning to the police force.
