Chiaramonte gets MacArthur past Oceanside
Joe Chiaramonte hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Nick Kaywood with the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth inning, to give No. 2 MacArthur a 7-6 win over No. 3 Oceanside Wednesday. The Generals swept the best-of-three Nassau Class AA baseball semifinals. Chiaramonte added a two-run single in the fifth to put MacArthur (19-5) ahead 6-3. MacArthur will play No. 4 Carey at 11 a.m. on Monday at Farmingdale.
Deer Park 6, Half Hollow Hills West 1: Joe Paparella doubled to score Lenny Balbarasse with the go-ahead run in a five-run seventh inning to give No. 16 Deer Park the win over No. 9 Half Hollow Hills West in the second round of the Suffolk Class AA winners' bracket. Tom Kastelan gave up one earned run, six hits and struck out eight in a complete game for Deer Park (14-8), which will play at No. 5 Eastport-South Manor at 4 p.m. Friday in a winners' bracket semifinal.
Patchogue-Medford 5, North Babylon 4:Matt Vogel hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning to give No. 3 Patchogue-Medford (16-6) a 4-1 lead in the second round of a winners' bracket Suffolk Class AA game. Patchogue-Medford will host Sachem North at 4 p.m. Friday in the semifinals of the winners' bracket.
Commack 14, Lindenhurst 8: Charles Galiano went 2-for-4 with four RBIs to lead No. 8 Commack (16-6) over No. 1 Lindenhurst (18-4) in a losers' bracket game. Commack hosts No. 15 Northport in an elimination game at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Sachem North 12, Northport 2: Alec Sole went 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead No. 7 Sachem North (18-4) in the second round of the Class AA winners' bracket. Suffolk Class A first round
Sayville 2, Islip 1: Michael Hewson was 3-for-3 with a double and a two-run home run in the bottom of the third to lead No. 1 Sayville (19-2). Sayville will host Kings Park at 4 p.m. Friday in a winners' bracket semifinal.
Shoreham-Wading River 9, Bayport-Blue Point 8: Jon Criscito scored on an error to cap a four-run bottom of the seventh for No. 2 SWR (16-5). Matt Kneisel hit a two-run homer to ignite the rally for SWR, which will host No. 3 Glenn at 4 p.m. tomorrow in a winners' bracket semifinal.
Port Jefferson 4, Pierson 3: Mike Toffales' two-run triple in the top of the fourth gave No. 3 Port Jefferson (12-7) a 2-0 lead over No. 2 Pierson in a Suffolk Class C semifinal. Port Jefferson plays at No. 1 Mercy in a winners' bracket final at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Upper Room 11, Portledge 1: David Delgado went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and Ramon Laureano went 2-for-3 with two RBIs as No. 1 Upper Room (16-1) defeated No. 3 Portledge to win its sixth straight IPPSAL championship.
