Colon's no-hitter leads Knox baseball
Junior Jesus Colon threw a no-hitter with a career-high 18 strikeouts and no walks and led Knox in a 5-0 win over Portledge Wednesday in IPPSAL baseball. Only two Portledge batters reached base against Colon, both on errors. Jisub Choi went 3-for-3 with two runs and Matt Ciccarelli went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Knox (2-2).
Hewlett 2, New Hyde Park 0: Spencer Prusack threw a no-hitter with seven strikeouts and three walks to lead Hewlett (1-6-1) in a Nassau Conference A-I/II crossover. Ross Kleinrock's RBI single in the top of the seventh made it 2-0. Eddie Zaloba's RBI groundout made it 1-0 in the second. New Hyde Park's Anthony Simone had his no-hitter broken up on the first batter of the seventh inning.
Baldwin 9, Herricks 8: Louie Aponte's RBI single drove in Travis Hylton in the top of the eighth and gave Baldwin (4-1) a 9-8 lead in Conference AA-II. Nick LoBell went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a run for Baldwin.
Cold Spring Harbor 5, Carle Place 1: Sean O'Neill allowed four hits and two walks and struck out 16 in a complete game for CSH (4-4) in Conference BC. Zach Birzon went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Commack 3, Brentwood 1: Charles Galiano's double scored Greg Andrews in the top of the eighth to give Commack (5-3 League I) a 2-1 lead. Senior Rob Rose allowed three hits, a walk and struck out a career-high 17 for Commack.
Glenn 4, Mattituck 0: Richard Bartumioli struck out seven and walked one in a three-hitter for Glenn (7-1) in League VII.
SOFTBALL
Carle Place 8, Friends Academy 0: Ashley Cole struck out 10 with no walks and had a perfect game broken up by a leadoff single in the seventh inning for Carle Place (8-0) in Conference BC. Cole went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, Tori Hytell went 3-for-3 with a triple and one RBI and Kaitlyn Davis 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
Syosset 4, Oceanside 3: Danielle Zurek struck out seven, gave up two earned runs and scattered seven hits to lead Syosset (2-7) in non-league. Ashley Freedman's two-run single gave the Braves a 4-0 lead in the second inning.
Sachem East 7, West Islip 2: Cassie Asselta went 3-for-4 with a double and a two-run homer for Sachem East (7-2) in non-league. Samantha Smith was 3-for-3 with a run and Lindsey Treanor struck out eight in a four-hitter.
Riverhead 2, North Babylon 0: Emily Groneman went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and sophomore Amanda Graziano allowed four hits, a walk and struck out six for Riverhead (4-4) in League IV.
East Hampton 12, Hampton Bays 10: Deryn Hahn went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and Meghan Hess 4-for-5 with three RBIs for East Hampton (8-2) in non-league. Sam Mathews hit a three-run home run in the third to make it 6-0.
Sacred Heart 1, Holy Trinity 0: Gabby Barilli's single to left with two outs in the bottom of the seventh scored Kaitlyn Gorman and won it for Sacred Heart (2-7) in CHSAA. Kaitlin Koste threw a five-hitter with no walks and three strikeouts.
