Some Long Island parents took part in a national protest today against the controversial Common Core educational curriculum that has been rolled out in most states across the U.S.

Today was dubbed "National Don't Send Your Kid to School Day" by angry parents and education activists who are unhappy with the changes.

The movement has been spreading on Facebook. It urges parents to protest the time that students and teachers have been putting in to pass the new rigorous standardized tests.

There is no official number of how many children stayed out of school today.
