The letter "Why so many superintendents?" [March 13] was right on the mark. The Bellmore-Merrick communities have five individual school districts, each with its own superintendent, support staff and overhead.

The Bellmore-Merrick communities are all similar demographically. This would be a plus if the school districts were consolidated, and they should be. We should have at most three.

I am reading the article "Hands off supe's pay" [News, March 23] and have trouble forming a solid opinion on what the pay scale should be. The reason is, I do not know exactly what superintendents do and how they are judged in their performance of their tasks.

As a business owner and employer in the staffing industry, I know it is unfair and unreasonable to judge a pay scale in such a void. Have I missed articles reviewing this information? If not, please write one and give the information anybody would need to accurately judge wether the superintendents have actually earned the amounts they are being paid.
