Crawley OT goal propels Port Washington
John Crawley scored the winner 3:28 into overtime for No. 10 Port Washington in a 9-8 boys lacrosse victory at No. 7 Calhoun in the first round of the Nassau Class A playoffs Friday. Crawley finished with three goals and two assists, John Keren scored four goals, and Marco Rystic made 17 saves for the Vikings (9-7). Jake Froccaro had a goal and three assists. Port Washington will play No. 2 Massapequa at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Hofstra in a quarterfinal. Kurt Abitz led No. 7 Calhoun (8-8) with three goals.
Oceanside 15, MacArthur 6: Will Remsen scored all three of his goals in an 8-2 second quarter for No. 8 Oceanside (9-7) in the first round of the Class A playoffs. Chris Hughes, who had three goals and four assists, went 10-for-10 on faceoffs. Hughes also broke Oceanside's single-season record for assists with 56, which leads Long Island. Joe Devlin had 55 in 1976. Remsen also had two assists, Greg Gilbert scored four goals, and Andrew Failla made 11 saves. Oceanside will play top-seeded Farmingdale at 4 p.m. Monday at Hofstra in a quarterfinal. Jamie McAndrew led No. 9 MacArthur (8-8) with three goals and two assists.
Baldwin 17, East Meadow 10: Mike Ainbinder scored five goals for No. 6 Baldwin (10-6) in the first round of the Class A playoffs. Tyler Harper had three goals and three assists, and Austin Valenti a goal and five assists. Baldwin will play No. 3 Syosset at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hofstra in a quarterfinal. Chris Whitenack led No. 11 East Meadow (8-9) with three goals.
Locust Valley 9, Floral Park 5: Frank Vezza scored two goals and won 15 of 18 faceoffs for No. 5 Locust Valley (10-6) in the first round of the Nassau Class C playoffs. Alex Rawa and Tom Nastasi each sccored two goals, and Tyler Burhens made 15 saves. Locust Valley will play top-seeded Cold Spring Harbor at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hofstra in a semifinal. James O'Boyle scored four goals for No. 4 Floral Park (7-7).
Seaford 14, Mineola 1: Will Montgomery had three goals and an assist for No. 3 Seaford (12-4) in the first round of the Class C playoffs. Bryan Graziose added three goals, and Joe Kirincic made 16 saves. Justin Buckley won 13 of 14 faceoffs. Seaford will play No. 2 Friends Academy at 8 p.m. Thursday at Hofstra in a semifinal. Matt Moro made 12 saves for No. 6 Mineola (7-9).
GIRLS LACROSSE
Sachem East 7, East Islip 5: Jill Donodeo and Theresa Guiliano each scored two goals for No. 10 Sachem East (11-6) in the first round of the Suffolk Class A playoffs. Jen Gazdick made seven saves. Sachem East will play at No. 2 Bay Shore at 4 p.m. Monday in a quarterfinal. Nicole Levy scored two goals for No. 7 East Islip (11-5).
Half Hollow Hills 10, Sachem North 7: Julie DiMaria scored her third goal on a free position with 16:41 left to give No. 6 Half Hollow Hills (13-4) an 8-6 lead in the Suffolk Class A playoffs. Alexis Maffucci had three goals and one assist, and Jackie DiMaria scored three goals. Hills will play at No. 3 West Islip at 4 p.m. Monday in a quarterfinal. Kelly Kuerner had five goals and one assist for No. 10 Sachem North (8-8).
Middle Country 15, Connetquot 11: Jenna Agostino scored five goals with one assist for No. 8 Middle Country (11-6) in the Class A playoffs. Jessica Kravitz and Nikki Ortega each had three goals and an assist, and Lauren Young made 12 saves. Middle Country will play at No. 1 Northport at 4 p.m. Monday in a quarterfinal. Amber Kupres led No. 9 Connetquot (11-6) with three goals and three assists.
Ward Melville 19, Smithtown West 8: Ally Tilley scored four goals for No. 5 Ward Melville (11-6) in the Class A playoffs. Jess Liberty had four goals, and Emily Rogers-Healion three goals and two assists. Ward Melville will play at No. 4 Floyd at 4 p.m. on Monday in a quarterfinal. Kirsten Viscount led No. 12 Smithtown West (8-9) with four goals.
Wantagh 20, Jericho 5: Colleen Lovett had six goals and five assists for No. 2 Wantagh (13-3) in a Nassau Class B quarterfinal. Brittany Rader added three goals and one assist. Wantagh will play No. 3 Manhasset at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Denton Avenue Field in a semifinal. Renee Kiviat led No. 7 Jericho (3-14) with three goals.
Garden City 18, Lynbrook 2: Alexandra Bruno and Krista Dampman each scored three goals for No. 1 Garden City (16-0), which had 13 different goal scorers. Garden City will play No. 4 South Side at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Denton Avenue Field in a Nassau Class B semifinal. No. 7 Lynbrook finished 12-3.
