DeLuca, Braddish key W. Islip rally
Anthony DeLuca scored two goals in a 20-second stretch midway through the third and Conor Braddish added a score with 2:05 left in the quarter as West Islip overcame a two-goal deficit in an 11-7 win over East Islip in Suffolk Division I lacrosse Thursday.
With West Islip trailing 4-2 after an early third-quarter goal by East Islip, DeLuca scored twice to tie the score at 4. Braddish's goal gave the Lions a 5-4 advantage. It was the 36th straight win for West Islip (13-0).
Nick Aponte and Drew Federico each had two goals, Braddish added three assists and Mike Sagl had a goal and two assists. West Islip defenseman Kyle Carrick helped hold East Islip's Tyler Begley, one of Suffolk's top scorers, scoreless with an assist.
Tom O'Neill led East Islip with three goals.
Smithtown East 18, Patchogue-Medford 7: Senior Ryan Desimone set a school record with eight goals and tied a career high with 10 points and senior Gary Watson tied a career high with eight points (2 goals, 6 assists) for Smithtown East (6-6) in Division I. Ward Melville 17, Whitman 5: Senior Tyler Hegarty had a career-high six goals and Will Mazzone added one goal and four assists to lead Ward Melville (11-1) in Division I. Holy Trinity 11, St. John the Baptist 10: Nick Olson scored the go-ahead goal with 4:58 left in the fourth quarter to lift Holy Trinity (6-4) in CHSAA. Blake Ferraro scored five goals and sophomore goalie Sam Weiss came off the bench in the second quarter and made nine saves for Holy Trinity.
Middle Country 7, Half Hollow Hills West 4: Connor Boesch and Tyler Meigel each scored two goals to lead Middle Country (8-5) in Division I.Bay Shore 17, Commack 6: Junior Griffin Rock scored a career-high seven goals and senior Brendan Gaine added a career-high six goals to lead Bay Shore (8-4) in Division I.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Bayport-Blue Point 15, Shoreham-Wading River 12: Loren Generi scored her third goal of the game with 14:01 left to give Bayport-Blue Point (9-4) a 13-7 lead in Division II. Senior Gen Stickney had career highs in goals (7) and points (9) and Kaitlyn Leahy had 13 saves for the Phantoms. East Hampton 15, Kings Park 10: Maggie Pizzo, Carley Seekamp and Kelsi Thorsen each recorded hat tricks and Nicole Miksinski had six pass deflections on defense for East Hampton (7-6) in Division II.
Bellmore JFK 20, Glen Cove 10: Morgan Kitton scored six goals and Kerri Baum added four goals and one assist to lead Bellmore JFK (7-5) in non-league.Carey 12, Mepham 11: Daina Catanese had five goals and one assist and Marisa Baccarella and Jamie Dahl each had two goals and an assist for Carey (7-6) in non-league. New Hyde Park 21, St. Dominic 17: Sophomore Jillian Graziano had career highs in goals (9) and points (12) and Kristen Lynch scored six goals and added three assists to lead New Hyde Park (9-6) in non league. Deer Park 9, Brentwood 0: Shaun Bauer shot 2-over 38 and Kyle Morris shot 5-over 41 on the valley course at Colonial Springs Golf Course to lead Deer Park (4-7) in League I.
Syosset 9, North Shore 0:Matt Csillag shot 2-over 38 on the front nine at Brookville Country Club to lead Syosset (7-3) in Conference II.Friends Academy 9, Great Neck South 0: Peter Scialabba shot a par 35 on the front nine at Nassau Country Club for Friends Academy (7-3, Conference II), which had a team score of 196.
