Disney is coming to Long Island. Not a new movie, but one of the giant entertainment company's units that teaches small businesses how to make the Disney magic.
The Disney Institute will put on a daylong program at SUNY Old Westbury on Sept. 15, sponsored by the college's Auxiliary Services Corp., which runs the bookstore, food services and other venues. So what can small companies expect to learn from a global company like Disney?
“You'd really be surprised,“ said Disney spokeswoman Stacey Thomson. “The way Disney does business is incredibly simple. The basics go all the way back to Walt” Disney, the founder. “His basics were you treat people like you treat guests.“
A team of Disney “cast members” will talk about brand loyalty, people management and how to inspire creativity.
Michael Slauenwhite, auxiliary service's executive director, said between 150 to 250 people are expected to attend. Register before Aug. 15 and the cost is $299.
Denise Savino-Erichsen, president of Automatic Industries Inc., coin-operated laundry operators in Hempstead, was among those who signed up. “We're doing OK, but I am excited to have some type of formal corporate training because I grew up in a small family business,“ Savino-Erichsen said. Walt “Disney had such a vision. Walt was the man of men.“
