Free movie screenings at local libraries

A pair of local libraries will present free movie screenings that will be followed by discussion periods:

On Wednesday the Northport-East Northport Public Library will hold a screening of 2010’s “Never Let Me Go,” in which genetically raised clones raised to be organ donors embrace their chance for life. The screening begins at 6:30 p.m. at the library’s Northport branch, 151 Laurel Ave. The 103-minute movie will be followed by a discussion led by Dylan Skolnick, co-director of Huntington’s Cinema Arts Centre. The library holds a film/discussion program on the first Wednesday of each month, and no registration is required. For more information call the library at 631-261-6930.

On March 11, the Syosset Public Library, 225 S. Oyster Bay Rd., will hold a screening and discussion for the 2008 documentary “Food, Inc.” The 94-minute film explores how the current method of raw food production is largely a response to the growth of the fast food industry since the 1950s, and how that affects the food people purchase at the grocery store. The screenings will be held at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., with a discussion following the 2 p.m. screening. No registration is required. For more information call the library at 516-921-7161.
