Hannon, Smith pace Elmont track teams

Elmont sprinters had a big day at the Bulldog Invitational Saturday at Hewlett.

Valencia Hannon was a double winner, taking the 100 meters (11.8 seconds) and the 200 (24.8) in meet-record times for Elmont.

Jaquan Smith paced the Elmont boys with a first-place finish in the 100 in 10.4.

The Hewlett Bulldog Invitational is part of the Nassau Grand Prix of Track and Field, a culmination of four invitationals, two at Valley Stream North and the Limmer Invitational at Calhoun.

The Hewlett girls were led by Vanessa Pierre, who won the long jump (17-1 1/2). Hewlett's boys were led by Kevin Dehaney in the triple jump (42-7) and Neil Cohen with a third-place finish in the 800.

Pierre also received the Grand Prix jump award, and Cohen won the distance award.

Valley Stream North's Kendall Levy won the shot put (49-9) and the Grand Prix throwing award. Massapequa's Nick DeLuna won the 400 (50.2).

MacArthur's Mike Camacho won the 200 (22.1), and Kristina Roman led the Generals' girls team with a first-place finish in the 100 hurdles (15.4).

Floral Park had winners in boys and girls events as Justin Wilson won the high jump (6-6) and Natalie Thomas the 800 (2:23.0). Thomas took home the Grand Prix girls' distance award.

Hempstead's Noveka McKay won the 400 (58.5), and Massapequa's Catherine Young won the 1,500 in 4:52.

Bay Shore wins at Eddy. The Bay Shore boys took first at the Eddy Games in Schenectady with 49 points. Rafael Rother won the 400 in 50.06 and was part of the Marauders' 4 x 100 relay team of John Scott, Conner Crane and Dayne Savory, which took first in 43.63 seconds. Savory won the 100 in 11.08 seconds, and Amityville's Sancho Barrett won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.56.

Jessica Gelibert won the 100 hurdles (14.37) and the 400 hurdles (61.22) as the Bay Shore girls finished third with 42 points.
