THE SMALL CHANGE DIET: 10 Steps to a Thinner, Healthier You, by Keri Gans. Pocket Books, 310 pp., $7.99.
It's ... New Year's resolution time! Have you gone on a new diet yet?
You'd do well to pick up this little book by Gans, a registered dietitian in private practice in Manhattan (she's also an East Hamptonite), who suggests that you change small habits, one at a time.
Crash dieters often forget, she writes, that "To lose weight, you must eat normally."
THE SCOOP Gans divides her "10 steps" -- from "Create a healthy eating schedule" to "Get moving" -- into smaller steps, and wants you to have success with one before tackling the next.
THE BOTTOM LINE She's obviously heard every excuse in the book -- "I'll feel left out if I don't drink" is one -- and she has a Small Change Solution for them all: "Sure, you can have a drink," she writes. "One, though, not five."
