On Monday, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo announced New York State surpassed 1,000 deaths as an additional 253 people died since Sunday. The news of the continued toll of the disease caused by the coronavirus came as a massive U.S. Navy hospital ship docked in New York City, bringing some hope to a beleaguered city and state.
