Beware of the "bulletproof coffee" and the health claims made for it. Promoted for weight loss and overall health, this trendy concoction of coffee blended with butter (preferably "grass-fed") and medium-chain triglyceride oil (similar to coconut oil) is supposed to be consumed for breakfast as part of a Paleo-style high-fat diet. The recommended two-cup serving contains about 450 calories and far more than the daily limit of saturated fat advised for most people. You probably won't be surprised to hear that there's no clinical evidence that this butter bomb has any health benefits. Or that a recent case report in the Journal of Clinical Lipidology found that it can send LDL ("bad") cholesterol levels through the roof, which would presumably greatly increase the risk of heart disease. We advise you to dodge this bullet.
