Frosted sugar cookies manufactured in Canada and sold by Target stores in the United States, including at locations in New York, have been recalled due to possible wood contamination.
The cookies, 10-count packages of Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies, were manufactured by Give and Go Prepared Foods Corp., based in Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada, include 803 cases with the lot number 25195, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
The FDA has classified the event as a Class II recall, which signifies the possibility of temporary or medically reversible health consequences. But the risk of serious health consequences is remote.
The FDA said only that the recall was initiated on July 22 and that three distribution centers located in Maryland, Ohio and Connecticut distributed the cookies to retail stores in New York and 19 other states, as well as to locations in Washington, D.C.
It was not immediately clear Monday if Target stores on Long Island carried the cookies.
The FDA said quantities shipped were 15 units per case — which would put the total number of packages at just 12,045.
Officials at Give and Go, which has not issued a statement on the recall, could not immediately be reached for comment Monday, though the FDA said the recall is considered "voluntary."
Target did not respond to an email inquiry seeking comment.
