Bumble Bee Foods, LLC, has issued a voluntary recall on specific codes of 5-ounce Chunk White Albacore and Chunk Light Tuna products. The recall has been issued because the products do not meet the company’s standards for seal tightness. (March 6, 2013) Credit: Handout
Bumble Bee Foods, initially having issued a voluntary recall for specific codes of 5-ounce Chunk White Albacore and Chunk Light Tuna products due to loose seals, has expanded the recall to include additional cans.
According to a statement released about the recall, loose seals or seams can result in product contamination by “spoilage organisms” or pathogens. While this may lead to illness, no cases have been reported to date.
Tri-Union Seafoods LLC, the company that manufactures Chicken of the Sea, has also put out a voluntary recall on limited amounts of their 5-ounce cans, citing the same seal conditions as Bumble Bee Foods.
