Coffee contains beneficial nutrients, but fattening sweeteners can dampen these benefits.

The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics offers this advice when it comes to drinking coffee:

  • Beware of additives or "designer" coffee drinks.
  • Opt for a fat-free milk latte, which will limit added calories and fat.
  • Skip the sugar. Add flavor to your coffee with cinnamon or vanilla powder.
  • Limit yourself to no more than three 8-ounce servings of coffee per day.
