The correct car seat can protect your child in an accident, so make sure you're using the right seat for your child.

The Safercar.gov website mentions the best seats by a child's age:

• Babies from birth to 12 months should always ride in a rear-facing infant seat.
• Children aged 1 to 3 should ride in a rear-facing seat according to the height and weight requirements specified by the manufacturer.
• Children aged 4 to 7 should ride in a harnessed, forward-facing seat.
• Children aged 8 to 12 should ride in a back-seat booster device until they exceed the seat's height and weight requirements.
