Health Tip: Protect Against Osteoporosis
Your osteoporosis risk depends on many factors that you can't control, such as age, gender and ethnicity.
On the other hand, there are things you can do to help protect your bone health. The U.S. National Institutes of Health mentions these examples:
- Eat a full and balanced diet, including getting enough calcium, vitamin D and protein.
- Lead an active lifestyle, including getting enough exercise.
- Don't smoke.
- If you take certain medications -- including some drugs prescribed for endometriosis, cancer, seizures, arthritis or asthma -- talk to your doctor about what you can do to help protect your bones.
