A hip fracture, more common among the elderly and women, can cause extreme pain and severely limit your ability to get around.

The American Academy of Family Physicians says symptoms of a hip fracture also may include:

  • Swelling or bruising on or near the hip.
  • Being unable to bear weight on the hip.
  • Having a hard time walking.
  • Having pain in one leg, which appears shorter than the other leg or appears to point outward.
