“Melanoma Prevention: Avoiding the Dangers of Tanning” will be presented in Huntington in April.

Meghan Rothschild, a cancer survivor and spokesperson for the Melanoma Foundation of New England, will be speaking about her fight against cancer and how to prevent melanoma. The nonprofit foundation was founded in 1999 and focuses on preventing melanoma and working towards early detection. The organization offers a variety of educational, prevention and support programs.

The talk is being presented by town board member Susan A. Berland and New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman.

Berland, a skin cancer survivor, introduced a sun safety pilot program in 2016 at the Town of Huntington. The “Practice Safe Skin: Skin Cancer Prevention” project provided a dispenser, purchased from the Melanoma Foundation of New England, at Crab Meadow Beach that distributed organic SPF 30 sunscreen to beachgoers. The program aims to encourage sunscreen use and promote sun safety.

The presentation is Tuesday April 25 at 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 100 Main St.
