More mosquito spraying set for Fire Island

Ground spraying to control the adult mosquito population on parts of Fire Island is scheduled for 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, weather permitting, Suffolk County health officials said.
The pesticide applications are designed to control mosquitoes, which can spread the West Nile virus through bites.
The Suffolk County Department of Health Services said ground spraying of the pesticide Anvil will be conducted Tuesday on all streets in Davis Park and Point O'Woods.
Chances of experiencing medical problems because of the applications are low, health officials said, but residents may want to avoid exposure, with children and pregnant women especially advised to stay indoors during the treatment and for 30 minutes after.
As of Friday, Suffolk County reported 175 mosquito samples and 21 birds testing positive for West Nile virus so far this year. One human case has been confirmed -- a Babylon Town resident who was hospitalized and has since recovered, heath officials said.
