4 Suffolk beaches closed to bathing due to high bacteria levels

Four Suffolk County beaches were closed to bathing on Wednesday due to exceeding levels of bacteria.
The Suffolk County Department of Health Services warned that the beaches would remain closed until further testing showed acceptable levels of bacteria
The four beaches are:
- Sayville Marina Park beach in Sayville
- Bayport Beach in Bayport
- Goldstar Battalion Beach in Huntington
- Ronkonkoma Beach (Lake Ronkonkoma) in the Town of Islip.
Suffolk health officials said bathing in bacteria-contaminated water could result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose and throat.
The announcement comes one day after Nassau County Health Department announced an extended advisory against bathing at 19 beaches due to excessive bacteria levels following recent heavy rainfall.
That advisory was lifted at 7 a.m. Wednesday.
