The Half Hollow Hills West boys track participated in yesterday's New Balance Track and Field Games at the Armory for one purpose: to break a record in the only event it signed up for.

The Colts achieved that goal as their sprint medley relay team of Abdias Myrtil, Justin Connor, Dan McCord and Kyle Sammis took second in a Suffolk public school-record time of 3 minutes, 32.8 seconds, besting the mark of 3:34.89 in 2006.

"We came in just for that event with the purpose of breaking that record," Hills West coach Jim Christian said.

Hills West wasn't the only school to stand out at the Armory.

Central Islip's Ryan Satchell took first in the triple jump in 46 feet, 51/2 inches, beating out Uniondale's Glen Forsythe (46-11/2).

Forsythe still came out a winner, as he teamed with Christopher Stephenson to capture the triple jump relay with 88-31/2.

Uniondale's shuttle hurdle relay team took third in 31.43, and its jump team of Stephen Muir and Derrick Ingram took first in the long jump relay in a combined distance of 41-4.

The Uniondale boys team took second overall at the games with 16 points. Brooklyn's Sheepshead Bay finished first with 24.

In girls events Kellenberg took first in the shuttle hurdle relay in 33.46, followed by Uniondale (34.03).

The Garden City girls took second in the sprint medley relay in 4:03.18 ahead of Sachem North, which finished third (4:17.75).

North Shore's Brianna Nerud took third in the invitational mile in 4:57.45, and Sachem East's Brittany Christiansen finished third in the shot put (37-41/4).

Christiansen and teammate Brittany Sepe (31-91/2) finished second in the shot put relay with a combined distance of 69-13/4).

Yale Invitational. Reigning NYSPHSAA 55 meters indoor champion Sancho Barrett of Amityville won the event in 7.49 seconds at the Yale Invitational in New Haven on Friday.

Uniondale's 4 x 200 team of Tresean Goodwin, Derrick Ingram, Nyder Chardonette and Christopher Armour finished first in 1:32.87.

MacArthur's 4 x 200 relay team of Mike Camacho, Dan Archer, Andrei Dinore and Erik Chevez took second to the Knights in a school-record time of 1:33.14, besting the previous record of 1:33.20 the Generals set in 2010 at the same meet.

The Bay Shore 4 x 200 girls team of Brianah Allen, Essence Rogers, Jessica Gelibert and Anisa Toppin took second in 1:45.44. The Marauders' 4 x 400 team of Allen, Gelibert Jacqueline Anderson and Cesia Andrade finished second, too, in 4:04.74.

St. John the Baptist's girls team of Bridget Carey, Chelsea Penn, Mary McGaley and Victoria Lundin won the 4 x 400 in 4:00.4.

The Bayport-Blue Point girls ran to a second-place finish in the distance medley in 12:55.95.
