Jones' free throw wins it for Freeport
Monique Jones hit a free throw with 1.5 seconds left to give Freeport (3-2) a 48-47 victory over Uniondale yesterday in Conference AA-I. Jones finished with 15 points, while Deasia Goodson added 12 points and nine rebounds. LaTashia Morris had 10 points and two assists. Aliyah McDonald led Uniondale (2-2) with 15 points.
Mepham 64, Long Beach 38: Kristen O'Brien had 23 points and eight rebounds and eighth-grader Megan Anderson had a career-high 17 points to lead Mepham (5-0) in Conference AA-III. Molly Martin had 10 point for Long Beach (2-3). Wantagh 47, New Hyde Park 30: Tara Basile scored eight of her 12 points in a 21-10 second quarter for Wantagh (4-0) in Conference A-I. Basile also had five assists. Alexandra Parlato added 12 points, seven rebounds and five blocks and April Iannetta had nine points, eight rebounds, six assists and eight steals. Ciara McCullagh led New Hyde Park (3-2) with 20 points.
Friend Academy 30, Malverne 25: Holly Constants and Rose Mangiarotti scored on back-to-back possessions to give Friends (4-3) a 26-22 overtime lead in Conference BC. Malverne's Karen Ulysse scored with 20 seconds left in regulation to tie it at 22. Reoni Mapp had 11 points for Friends Academy and Marissa Reyes added six. Amanda Masson had 12 points for Malverne.
Oyster Bay 48, East Rockaway 42: Hannah Nalaboff's putback with three minutes left put Oyster Bay (2-3) ahead for good 44-42 in Conference BC. Nalaboff finished with 17 points and seven rebounds. Joshlyn Grant chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Central Islip 64, Half Hollow Hills East 33: Janiece Jenkins had 20 points, 20 rebounds and four steals to lead Central Islip (3-1) in League II. Brittany Fenner added 16 points and 13 rebounds, Michelle Fredericks had 12 points, five rebounds and five steals and Brenda Hornedo had 10 points, four assists and four steals.
Riverhead 61, Centereach 42: Jalyn Brown had nine of her game-high 21 points in a 22-9 third quarter to help Riverhead (2-1) pull away in League III. She added four steals and four assists. Melodee Riley had 12 rebounds to go with her 10 points.
North Babylon 60, Smithtown West 37: Freshman guard Tamara Simpson had a career-high 31 points and 10 rebounds and Casey Fillippone added eight rebounds and seven assists for North Babylon (4-0) in League III. Charise Wilson added 10 points and four steals in the win.
Miller Place 50, Sayville 40: Marlaina Sherman had 27 points, 19 rebounds and 17 blocks to lead Miller Place (3-2) in League V.
Islip 52, Rocky Point 40: Seventh-grader Italee Brown had 11 points and four assists to lead Islip (2-2) in League V. Shannon Duer added 10 points and 16 rebounds. Shannon Grodotzke scored 17 points for Rocky Point.
Glenn 44, Amityville 41: Meaghan Haber hit a three-pointer to give Glenn (5-0) a 42-41 lead with a minute to go and Emma Cliss added a jumper moments later to provide the final margin in League VI. Allison McKenna led Glenn with 18 points and Danielle Evers chipped in 14 points. Monica Eugene added 15 rebounds in the win. Westhampton 60, Bayport-Blue Point 51: Junior Kristen Polan had a career-high 40 points, including 13 in an 18-2 third quarter, and chipped in 12 rebounds for Westhampton (1-3) in League VI. Haley Laube added 11 points and eight assists.
Hampton Bays 61, Mattituck 51: Sophomore Andrea Tufano had her first quadruble-double with 16 points, 19 rebounds, 11 steals and 10 blocks to lead Hampton Bays (6-5) in League VII. Theresa Carey added 14 points, 15 steals and nine assists and Alexis Fotopolous had 13 points.
Pierson/Bridgehampton 35, Stony Brook 33: Sarah Barrett scored the game-winning basket with 30 seconds to go for Pierson/Bridgehampton (3-0) in League VIII.
