Kristina Insingo qualifies in weight throw for Holy Trinity for Millrose Games

When Holy Trinity's Kristina Insingo first decided she was going to try to qualify for a spot in the Millrose Games in weight throw, her expectations were tempered. And for good reason, she had thrown the weight only once before.

"It's much different from the discus and the shot put," said Insingo, who now throws both. "It's a different movement. I like the variety of it. I like the release of it. It's a much more fluid motion."

But her inexperience with the event didn't hurt her performance much. Insingo threw 39-4 1/2, qualifying for the prestigious games next month at the Armory.

"It's really cool to think that I'll be involved in such a great meet," she said. "I'm very excited. At first, I wasn't sure how I'd feel. But now that I've made it, it's had much more of an influence on me. It shows how far I've gotten. It's a milestone."

Insingo will participate in the Millrose weight throw Feb. 13, two days before the rest of the events, coach Justin Renna said.

The Holy Trinity bus will be full when the team returns to the Armory on Feb. 15. The Titans qualified two relay teams; the girls CHSAA sprint medley relay and the boys CHSAA 4 x 200-meter relay.

The girls, composed of Aisling Fitzgerald, Kim Peragine, Rachel Luebke and Marianne Bartolotta qualified in 4:19.27. The team, which graduated anchor leg Caroline Brown last year, is still adjusting to new positions.

"The past two years, I was running the 400 leg," said Bartolotta, who runs the 800 anchor. "The 800 is half the race. It's a lot more pressure."

The boys 4 x 200, composed of Shaka Shomari, Nathaniel Small, Peter Scarpitta and Ryan Archibold, qualified in 1:31.66.

"We have a good bond,"Shomari said. "It gets stronger every day."

Small, a senior, will be making his first trip to the Millrose Games. "This is all I can ask for," he said. "You want to try to go to the best meets and go up against the best people. We get to do that this year."
