Lax roundup: Murphy's 6 goals lift Floyd to victory
Octavia Williams scored the winner with 2:29 left in No. 4 Floyd's 10-9 home win over No. 5 Ward Melville in the Suffolk Class A girls lacrosse quarterfinals Monday. Courtney Murphy led the Colonials (14-3) with six goals and one assist, Williams added three goals, and Gabby Bradley had four assists. Chelsea Sidaras made 10 saves. Floyd will play at top-seeded Northport at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the semifinals. Emily Rogers-Healion led Ward Melville (11-7) with three goals and one assist.
West Islip 12, Half Hollow Hills 11: Loren Ziegler, who had three goals and four assists, scored the winner with 24 seconds left in overtime on an assist from Erin Collins for No. 3 West Islip (14-3). She also tied the game at 11 with 2:08 left on a pass from Lorraine Hodgson. Kelsey Allen added three goals, Collins had two goals and two assists, and Erin Brynes two goals. West Islip will play at No. 2 Bay Shore at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the semifinals. Julia DiMaria led No. 6 Half Hollow Hills (13-5) with four goals and two assists, and Jillian Rocco had 12 saves.
Bay Shore 15, Sachem East 6: Caroline deLyra scored four goals for No. 2 Bay Shore (14-3). Kyra Harney had two goals and two assists. Cynthia DelCore, Paige Leggio and Catherine Schmidt each scored two goals. Katie Trombetta led No. 10 Sachem East (11-7) with three goals and two assists and Jen Gazdick had 12 saves.
Northport 15, Middle Country 5: Shannon Gilroy scored three goals with one assist for No. 1 Northport (15-2). Paige Bonomi and Cortney Fortunato each had two goals and one assist, Allie Pavinelli had a goal and two assists, and Erin Magnuson and Mary Pat Theofield each scored two goals. Nikki Ortega led No. 8 Middle Country (11-7) with two goals.
BOYS LACROSSE
Long Beach 12, Hicksville 8: Joe Radin scored five goals for No. 5 Long Beach (13-4) in the Nassau Class A quarterfinals at Hofstra. Connor Sofield scored three goals with one assist, Jake Shapiro scored two goals, and Mike Rourke made seven saves. Long Beach will play top-seeded Farmingdale at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hofstra in the semifinals. Sal Geneva led No. 4 Hicksville (11-5) with three goals and one assist.
Farmingdale 17, Oceanside 10: Senior Korey Hendrickson scored a career-high six goals for No. 1 Farmingdale (12-4), which led 8-1 at halftime. Pat Starke scored all three of his goals in the first half and added an assist. Brian Prendergast had two goals and three assists, Sal Tuttle had two goals and two assists, and Mike Palmer made 10 saves. John Remsen led No. 8 Oceanside (9-8) with three goals and one assist.
South Side 12, Lynbrook 4: Zach Scaduto scored four goals with two assists for No. BI-3 South Side (11-6) in the Nassau Class B quarterfinals at Hofstra. Bryan Gerrato added three goals and two assists, Peter Clark scored three goals, and Dominic Moriarty made 12 saves. South Side will play No. BI-1 Garden City at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hofstra in the semifinals. Luke Spitzer led No. BII-2 Lynbrook (9-7) with three goals.
