Anastasia Lennon singled in Denise Nunez for the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth as No. 1 Port Jefferson beat No. 2 Pierson, 6-4, Tuesday to clinch the best-of-three Suffolk Class C softball final.

Lennon, whose single gave the Royals (15-3) a 5-4 lead, scored the final run on a double by Michiko McGivney. Port Jeff will play Friends Academy for the L.I. championship on June 7 at Bellport Martha Avenue Field.

BASEBALL

Mercy 8, Pierson/Bridgehampton 3: Pat Stepnoski struck out eight, gave up one earned run and two hits as No. 1 Mercy won its second straight Class C title. Rocco Pascale added a two-run homer in the bottom of the first to give Mercy a 2-0 lead. Mercy (16-4) will face Friends for the L.I. championship at 4:30 on Sunday at Farmingdale State.

BOYS LACROSSE

Holy Trinity 15, Fordham Prep 9: Pat Candon had four goals and two assists for host Holy Trinity (13-6) in the CHSAA AA Intersectional championship. Robbie Zecher had three goals and three assists, Nicholas Susko added two scores and three assists and Nick Olson chipped in three goals and an assist in the win.

GIRLS GOLF

Galantino repeats. St. Anthony's Isabelle Galantino won her second straight state CHSAA title with a 78 at the Arrowhead Golf Club in Akron on Sunday and became the first CHSAA golfer to win consecutive state championships. Sacred Heart's Stephanie Sullivan took second with an 80 and Taylor Lambrou of Holy Trinity finished fourth with 82.
