Letter: Millionaires aren't fleeing NY yet
In response to your editorial "How to keep a millionaire" [Oct. 20], which supported the expiration of the high-earner surcharge, you overlooked a glaring fact: The high earners haven't left New York. In fact, the highest earners seem to be doing better than ever!
On the other hand, the lower earners are doing worse than ever, but Newsday doesn't seem to worry about losing them because of the ever-increasing cost of living in New York.
If the surcharge hasn't forced out the high earners so far, there is no indication that continuing the surcharge will make any difference. Letting it expire would cost the state much-needed income, which will ultimately lead to increased taxes and loss of services to the lower-earners.
Newsday really needs to re-examine the logic of its position.
