I am writing in response to a letter, "SPCA raids are hard to understand" [Sept. 30]. The writer, who rescues dogs, states that she is "delighted" that the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is being sued by farm owner Mona Kanciper.

There is no reason to be delighted. It is unreasonable and unfair to condemn an organization that has the mission of rescuing abused and sickly animals. These raids are about protecting animals.

The writer and the SPCA are allies, not enemies. They are both doing noble and decent work that needs to be done.
