Letter: TV can help those learning English

In response to a letter that stated it is difficult to learn English due to too few classes, I offer a simple solution ["English-only lacks empathy," Sept. 28]: Watch television, specifically the PBS stations. Start with "Sesame Street" and "The Electric Company." They are repetitive, they give multiple examples, they show the noun and act out the verb. After that, try some of the how-to shows. Start with the ones aimed at children, as they are learning English also.
While TV won't necessarily help you read and write English, it can help you to speak and understand it.
