LETTERS: Arizona law, roadside memorials and more
Kudos to Gov. Brewer for new Arizona law
Kudos to Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer for signing "the toughest law against illegal immigration in the country" . Would that other politicians, including ours in New York, would show the same political courage and integrity.
Who is the Mexican president to repeatedly threaten reprisals and ramifications if we don't continue to allow his indigents to trespass into this country and violate our laws? Nobody in the United States elected him to represent our interests or to have a say in our law enforcement. Must we leave the gates open? That is incredible arrogance.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is doing the right thing by signing a law that helps protect Arizona from illegal immigrants. Why are people angry about criminal activity? A trespasser breaks the law by intentionally and without consent entering another's property. Therefore, illegal immigrants are guilty of criminal trespass onto American soil. They should be arrested and deported. They are not citizens and do not have constitutional rights.
Our legislators took an oath to uphold the Constitution. According to Article 4, Section 4, "The United States shall guarantee to every state" protection against invasion. As the nation's busiest gateway for illegal immigrants, who are invading the United States, Arizona's government is finally doing just that.

Use official markers to replace memorials
It's a fairly new tradition to see memorials suddenly appear along our roadways for those who've lost their lives due to vehicular tragedy "Fight for memorial," News, May 3]. I understand the need to mourn and I gain a sense of just how deadly a trip across town can be on any given day.
While respect for the dead is sacred, respect for the living should not be sacrificed. This respect for the living should include limits to these memorials, if for no other reason than safety. Perhaps the municipality responsible for that road could install a sanctioned marker at the site after one to three months that can safely remember that loss. A fee could be collected for this marker from the loved ones who feel it necessary. We would all be reminded in a safe, respectful way of the hazards and loss that driving on our roadways can mean.

Next for Trump?
Considering the floodwater covering his restaurant construction site at Jones Beach , wouldn't it be easier for The Donald to create an Olympic-sized swimming pool for international events? Naming it after himself, of course.
