LI fall fest packed on sunny Saturday

Hundreds packed Heckscher Park in Huntington on a warm, sunny Saturday for the 21st annual Long Island Fall Festival.
Vendors selling everything from balloons to goldfish to arts and crafts lined Prime Avenue along the park as parents pushed strollers or playfully raced their children down the street. One infant was clad in a Giants jersey.
Cindy Goldstein, 47, a tchotchke vendor from Oceanside who sells at fairs from March to December, said the weather today was the best kind for her, though she and her husband Phil, 48, have braved extreme temperatures over the six years they’ve been doing it.
“We have made a lot friends this way ... met a lot of interesting people,” she said.
Going to the festival, which features live music, including Saturday night's performance by Billy Joel cover band Big Shot, rides, food and games, is a must for some locals, including Alex Fascilla, 8.
“They have really fun prizes and rides,” said Alex, who attended the fair with some friends and cousins. “And you can win fish!”
As in past years, parking was hard to come by, and at least one business in the area was taking advantage of the situation. The Sunoco gas station at the corner of Madison Street and New York Avenue was charging $20 for a spot.
The festival runs Saturday through 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
