Following in the footsteps of several other states, Republican gubernatorial candidates Rick Lazio and Steve Levy each called for New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo - coincidentally a possible Democratic candidate for governor - to challenge the federal health care legislation.
Levy said that New York will "get clobbered" with the cost of the Medicaid increase, while Lazio said that Congress can't "force New Yorkers to purchase services."
Newsday.com users have chimed in as well, some in favor of legal action, while others feeling it is a waste of time.
CoachJim said that, while he isn't "a fan" of the health care reform, he thinks lawsuits "will get everyone nowhere." Redmond and 1LongIslander contended otherwise.
Redmond's rationale was that the federal government was overstepping their constitutional boundaries, pointing out that "health insurance companies can't do commerce across state lines." 1LongIslander, meanwhile, said "Every state in the Union should sue to stop Obamacare."
Do you think Levy and Lazio have a point in calling for lawsuits? What effect do you think measures like this will have on the race for governor?
