NEWS ROUNDUP

WATER MAIN BREAK. A water main break on Brilner Drive in Smithtown is affecting about 16 homes, according to the Suffolk County Water Authority. Customers in this area may experience low water pressure, no water service or discolored water as a crew makes repairs.

LIRR UNION, MTA TALKS RESUME. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the unions representing nearly 6,000 Long Island Rail Road workers resumed talks, laying out their final offers in a four-year-long contract dispute. The White House-appointed Presidential Emergency Board No. 245 convened in Manhattan this afternoon to hear from LIRR labor leaders and MTA negotiators. Look for a follow-up report on Newsday.com.

BOSTON MARATHON.  For the first time in 29 years, an American won the Boston Marathon. The race got under way this morning after runners and spectators observed a moment of silence to remember the victims of last year's bombings.
