BOMB THREAT AT HIGH SCHOOL

Amityville Memorial High School was briefly evacuated earlier this morning after Amityville Village police said they received a bomb threat to the school. After police investigated the threat and found nothing, students and staff were permitted to re-enter the school and classes resumed as scheduled.

"The district thanks local law enforcement officials and personnel for their prompt response and support, and will continue to work with them as they continue their investigation of this incident," said Mary Kelly, acting superintendent of the school district, in a news release. "As always, the safety of our students is paramount and we will continue to take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety and security."

RAYMOND ROTH SENTENCED.  Raymond Roth, the Massapequa man who faked his drowning in a botched insurance scam and was convicted of impersonating a police officer and other charges in an unrelated case, was sentenced today. A judge sentenced Roth to 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison and ordered him to pay the costs -- $36,555.37 -- of what rescuers spent searching for him in the Atlantic Ocean, reports Newsday's Bridget Murphy, who is live-tweeting from the courtroom. COMING UP TONIGHT

TOWN BOARD. A Smithtown Town Board meeting is scheduled for tonight at 7 at the Eugene A. Cannataro Senior Citizen Center, 420 Middle Country Rd., Smithtown. The meeting is expected to include a public hearing on the board’s consideration of a special exception petition to construct indoor and outdoor sports fields and facilities, medical offices, retail, restaurant, concession and a pool on the north side of Old Northport Road in Kings Park.
