MTA Chair says LIRR riders should telecommute Monday
MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber spoke on 1010 WINS Sunday morning, saying, "we are available to negotiate 24/7," but that the taxpayers and riders would end up paying for "the special deal" the union is demanding.
He said assuming the strike continues into Monday, Long Islanders should telecommute if they can. For those who must get to the city, he recommended LIRR riders can use the shuttle buses that will run from six pickup locations on Long Island to subway lines near the Nassau-Queens border. They can also take Nassau County buses into Queens.
When asked about Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman’s call for a suspension of congestion tolls while the strike is on, Lieber noted that Blakeman had opposed a series of improvements in LIRR service.
"On any transportation issue, I'm not looking to him for advice, that's for sure," Lieber said.
