Rebecca Musgrove is playing with an injured thigh but you'd never know it. The St. Anthony's junior guard insists she's in intense pain, making her performance Friday night all the more impressive.
"I struggle with my injury because it kills all the time," she said. "I give it my all no matter how bad it hurts."
Musgrove had a career-high 20 points -- along with 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals -- and became the first Friar to reach the 20-point mark in two-plus seasons under coach Ken Parham as St. Anthony's cruised past host Holy Trinity, 58-37, in CHSAA girls basketball Friday night.
"She's a complete player and she does a lot for us," Parham said. "I expect her to do that. She does that every day in practice so I know when it comes to a game she's going to do the same."
St. Anthony's (4-0, 3-0 CHSAA) led 27-18 at the half but the Titans hit back-to-back three-pointers to start the third quarter to cut the deficit to 27-24, but that's the closest they would get.
"When they came out with [the pair of three-pointers] we knew right away we had to end it there," Musgrove said. "We couldn't let them go on a run because the rest of the game would have been really tight. We had a quick conversation, said 'no more threes.'
"We know who their shooters are -- we had to stop them right there -- and that's what we did."
Musgrove scored 11 points during a 26-3 Friars run which spanned more than 10 minutes from early in the third until the closing minutes of the fourth, giving St. Anthony's a commanding 53-27 lead.
Katie Poppe had 17 points for Holy Trinity (4-3, 2-1).
Forward Symone Kelly (foot) is also playing with an injury but it didn't hinder the balanced St. Anthony's offense.
Kelly had six points and seven rebounds in limited minutes, Shannon White had 13 points, Johanna Impellizeri had eight points, 12 rebounds and seven assists and Chastity Taylor had eight points for the Friars.
