Nadel, Hannon have records at Stanner Games
Success came early and often for Long Island Saturday at the Molloy Stanner Games at the Armory.
North Shore's Samantha Nadel had the most impressive performance, taking first in the girls invitational 3,000 meters in a Long Island-record time of 9:41.36, finishing ahead of Ward Melville's Mary Kate Anselmini, who finished second in a Suffolk-record time of 9:48.0.
Joining Nadel was Elmont's Valencia Hannon, who set a meet record in the 55 meters, taking first in 6.99 seconds.
Other girls in the winner's circle were Sachem East's Rachel Paul with a first-place finish in the 1,000 (2:56.11), St. Anthony's Olicia Williams in the 600 (1:34.12) and Longwood's Imani White in the shot put (39 feet, 6 1/2 inches).
Kellenberg's Katie Cavanaugh won the 55 hurdles in 8.58.0 and was part of the Firebirds' winning shuttle hurdle relay team.
St. Anthony's Victoria Ciotti was also a winner in the 1,600 in 5:20.87.
In the boys events, there were several winning efforts put forth, including one by Elmont's Jaquan Smith, who took the 55 in 6.51 seconds.
Massapequa's Andrew Valenski won the 3,200 in 9:26.13, Dan McCord of Half Hollow Hills West took the 300 in 34.95 and was a part of the winning 4 x 200 relay team which included Abdias Myrtil, Justin Connor and Justin Ma (1:30.69).
Chaminade's Matt Woop was first in the 1,600 (4:26.78), Port Jefferson's Andrew Keresztes was a winner in the 1,000 (2:32.28), Riverhead's Treval Hatcher won the triple jump (47-1) and Shoreham-Wading River's Erik Anderson won the high jump (6-4 1/4).
BOYS BASKETBALL
Long Island Lutheran 57, Robeson 41: Achraf Yacoubou had 21 points and 10 rebounds for Long Island Lutheran (12-2) at the Big Apple Classic at Baruch College. Jordan Allen added 17 points and 13 rebounds, and Mike Florin had 11 points and four assists. Shaun Lawton had four points and eight assists.
Our Savior New American 67, Kettering (Ohio) Alter 50: Christopher Obekpa had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Nick Lewis 15 points for Our Savior New American (9-5) at the Flying Through the Hoop Tournament in Dayton, Ohio.
St. Mary's 67, New Rochelle 66: Charles McCann converted on a three-point play with nine seconds remaining to lead St. Mary's (12-0) in non-league. Justin Bailey had 19 points and McCann 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Gaels.
Valley Stream North 58, Clarke 46: Sean Douglas had 23 points and eight rebounds and CJ Byron eight points and 14 rebounds for Valley Stream North (3-0) in Nassau Conference A-IV.

St. John the Baptist 92, Farrell 75: Patrick McIllvain won the 50-yard freestyle (24.13) and Travis Leguyader took first in the 100 freestyle (54.26) for St. John the Baptist in non-league.
