Researchers tallied costs in health care, lost productivity over 14 years Credit: HealthDay

Nassau County Health Department Commissioner Dr. Lawrence Eisenstein, County Executive Edward Mangano and Legis. Dave Denenberg (D-Merrick) will participate
in a forum to discuss the West Nile virus, mosquito control and other health concerns.

The forum will be Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Freeport Memorial Library, 144 W. Merrick Rd.

Eisenstein also will answer questions regarding health and safety measures.

Nassau County Department of Public Works is responsible for mosquito control, including monitoring and treating street basins, sumps, ponds and freshwater streams with larvicides. To report a mosquito or stagnant water problem, call DPW’s Mosquito Control Unit at 516-571-6900.

The county health department conducts mosquito and West Nile virus surveillance  at 42 trap sites throughout the county. For information concerning West Nile virus activity, call the health department’s Mosquito Surveillance at 516-572-1211.
