Nassau Top 10 (as of April 1)

No seismic shake-up or anything like that in this week's rankings, but there were a couple shifts and a new entrant (a hearty "w00t w00t" for Long Beach).

In weeking with Laura's musical theme, I feel compelled to play off a lyric. And since she already dropped a Sherly Crow, I'll twist a J. Cole line...

The teams that moved up/into the top 10 essentially asked, "Where's the ladder?" Because you can either whine or you can climb, and they chose the latter. 

1. Garden City ( 3-0)

Can't argue with 51 straight wins, and the Trojans won both their games last week by a combined score of 36-4. Alexandra Bruno scored five goals and Catherine McTiernan had a goal and four assists in their win over Lynbrook on Saturday.

2. Farmingdale (4-0)

The Dalers dominated in their two victories last week. Kim Kolodny had six goals and an assist, and Nicole Kayola made seven saves in a 13-3 win over Oceanside. (Heads up: There might be a "Crayola" pun off Nicole's last name made on this blog at some point. Warning: It'll almost certainly be corny and poorly-executed.)

3.   Wantagh (2-1)

The Warriors jump up a spot, ahead of Manhasset. We figured it'll be back and forth most of the season, and Wantagh gets the nod this week because they're coming off an impressive 18-10 win over South Side. Colleen Lovett had six goals and four assists, and Kaleigh Craig added four goals and four assists.

4. Manhasset (2-1)

After lights-out performances against Lynbrook and Long Beach to start the season, the Indians ran into a brick wall they call St. Anthony's. The Friars looked... how the Friars usually look and Manhasset didn't have much recourse in Friday's 17-6 loss. But we'll put that one in the "Ain't no shame in that" category.

5. Massapequa (3-1)

The Chiefs showed mettle and resolve, rallying in the second half to beat a pretty good West Babylon team (one that went on to beat Northport). Massapequa will have its first in-league test on Wednesday when it faces Port Washington.

6. North Shore (4-0)

The Vikings move up on the strength of their 18-17 win over South Side last Tuesday. Amanda Johansen had six goals and Tess Korten had three goals and five assists, and North Shore led 12-7 at the half. The Vikings followed that up with two comfortable wins.

7. Locust Valley (4-0)

The Falcons are up a spot this week because of two dominant wins (over Plainview JFK and Island Trees) and because their offense is looking as sharp as it did at points last season. They've slung in 59 goals in the last three games. Wednesday's game against Seaford (5-1), another high-scoring team, should be a good'un.

8. Port Washington (3-0)

They picked up two wins over MacArthur and Baldwin last week in which the opponents were held to five and six, respectively. A credit to that defense, with Hayley Kerr, and goalies Kelly McDonough and Michelle Lammers.

9. Cold Spring Harbor (3-1)

Since that loss to Sacred Heart, the Seahawks have outscored their next two opponents 34-8. Victoria Kotowski had four goals and two assists, and Thea Leitman (five saves) and Haley Crosson (one save and zero relation to Sachem North's Dalton Cross-A-n) combined in goal as they beat Mineola, 18-2, on Thursday.

10. Long Beach (5-1)

The Mariners make their debut in the top 10. The five wins are hard to overlook (that includes victories over Seaford and Syosset). Their only loss was to Manhasset. They've got some toughies coming up with Garden City and Locust Valley.
